I'm becoming a heathen

Maybe I'm just becoming a heathen, but the first thing I thought when I looked at the pic above (stolen from Fr. Tim's blog) was, "That dress is ridiculous for working in the field. The least she should do is tuck the hem into her belt and roll back those dumb sleeves..."

I blame living in Italy. I heard Rome did the same thing to Luther.

I know, I know, you've always been such a fan of the utilitarian reduced habit...

It is a posed picture. Just minutes ago she was indeed girded for labour.

Umm. I think if she hiked up her hem and showed her arms a Levite or priest would come along with stick or stone.

...to break her bones?

The right word can be just as effective, plus it won't leave incriminating marks.

My first memory of Poland was looking out the train window and seeing men and women working in the fields in July in their sensible underwear (while coal sparks from the engine blew back into the train).
